Step onto L4 of the Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore and it’s like you’ve been transported to another place - your own private country club - perhaps where you have a Padel, Pickleball and Tennis court to your disposal located high above all the hustle and bustle that Orchard’s busy shopping district is famous for.
Not many people know that the 5-star hotel has a Padel court so after having played there twice - I wanted to share my overall thoughts and experience of this little known gem.
The Space
Firstly, this is a Four Seasons Hotel so as you would expect, it’s beautifully decorated and you’re immediately met with a lot of smiles and friendly faces from the staff there. Admittedly, I felt a little out of place walking in with my Padel gear on but was warmly welcomed and directed to L3 of the hotel where their wellness activities are located. It’s worth noting that even non-guests that play at the hotel get access to the changing rooms, lockers, showers, sauna and steam-room facilities at no extra charge which is a HUGE perk! They even have cold towels on offer which are a game changer especially after a few hours on court.
Stepping into the playing / sports area on L4 (accessed by a short staircase from L3), you’re immediately greeted by the Padel court, which is sandwiched to the right by a tennis court, and to the left by a pickleball court. Both times I visited, all the courts were in use which is great to see! The hotel usually offers shaded seating areas for players to mingle, which includes mini-fridges stocked with complementary waters and the cold towels I mentioned, but the second time we visited - they had these really cool temporary cabana style structures for an event they ran which were also really nice!
If you want something other than water, the hotel offers room service to the courts - I mean what else can you ask for? The first time we played there, my wife ordered a beer to the court. Not long after, her Corona arrived, but not as expected… The single Corona bottle came in its very own ice bucket, and was complimented with snacks that consisted of nuts and olives which were included in the price of the drink!
The Court
The court itself is blue and surrounded by artificial green turf which I love. These days, Padel courts are coming in all different funky colors like black, orange, pink and purple but I’m glad that the Four Seasons kept with the traditional blue courts. Good news is that you can decide for yourself as the Four Seasons has a Virtual Tour of the space so check it out before you even play!
The playing surface itself is good although there are a few visible seams where the turf is joined but this didn’t impact the games as much as I first anticipated. Both times we were able to have really fun and competitive games, and in agreement that we would definitely be playing there again.
Being an open-air court on L4 - it is surrounded by other office buildings, hotels and residential units which makes it a pretty unique experience - think Manhattan in New York. Because of this, the court benefits from longer hours of shade, a cool breeze and the sunsets are just really beautiful. A top tip is to play around 6:30pm like we did as this is when you can witness the change from day time to night when the buildings and their lights come to life!
The Vibes
The vibes are great here and each person I’ve spoken to that has played there really enjoys the whole experience. The Four Seasons provides a great alternative to playing at the other clubs in Singapore but if I were to suggest one thing that is missing, I would say that I would like some music playing in the background.
It’s a personal preference of mine, and I know not everyone cares that much about music but I think it really adds something extra 🙂
The Pricing
The price for 60 minutes of Padel starts at SGD $90++ and everything considered, even though it feels on the more expensive side for Padel, everyone felt it was well worth it given the entire experience as a whole.
The hotel also offers equipment rentals if players need:
• Racket Rental (Tennis, Padel or Pickleball): $10 nett per racket
• Ball Purchase (Tennis, Padel or Pickleball): $15 nett per 3 balls
Bookings can be made either by via the direct booking link, calling the hotel on +65 6831 7400 or emailing them on club.sin@fourseasons.com
Final thoughts
Anyone that plays Padel should really check out the Four Seasons as the space and experience they have curated is pretty special, and more affordable than you would think, especially when taking into account the location, service, available amenities and overall experience - I would say that it’s better than most Padel locations in Singapore and I can highly recommend it.
As luck would have it, the Four Seasons are hosting a Padel and Pickleball “Summer Smash” event on 30 and 31 August which I have entered with a friend. The prizes look incredible so wish us luck and come join us if you’re free and want to experience the space. Register HERE.
